Description of concrete air meter:-
A concrete air meter is a device used to measure the amount of entrained air in fresh concrete. Entrained air is microscopic air bubbles trapped throughout the concrete mix. The presence of entrained air is important for several reasons, including improving the workability of the concrete, increasing its resistance to freeze-thaw damage, and reducing the amount of cracking.
There are two main types of air meters:
Type A and Type B.
- Type A air meters are pressure meters that measure the air content by pressurizing the concrete sample and measuring the amount of pressure required to achieve a specific volume change.
- Type B air meters are volumetric meters that measure the air content by measuring the volume of water displaced by a known volume of concrete.
The specific type of air meter used will depend on the requirements of the project and the specifications of the concrete mix. ASTM International (ASTM) and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) have both published standards for testing air content in concrete. These standards specify the type of air meter that must be used, as well as the testing procedures.
